<<Students can already receive their bachelor's degrees in law from either NYU or NUS; however, the joint degree program will begin in July.
According to an article on media.www.nyunews.com, the director of the NYU School of Law's Singapore program, Simon Chesterman, said that "the partnership is convenient and also a way to 'educate law students that reflected the reality of the way that many lawyers now practice and think — globally.'"
One student who chose the dual degree program signed up because "the program is in the financial center of Asia, everyone speaks English, and Singapore is centrally located. The law firm I work for now in New York City does work in Hong Kong, so I can continue to intern in Singapore."
The program is aimed towards both Asian students "seeking to acquire proficiency in American law" and international students who, according to Chesterman, "recognize the importance of Asia and want to combine the rigor of an American law degree [with] simultaneously acquiring proficiency in Asian law and institutions."
