But Dann stayed afloat, though the wheels were rumbling. He's a Democrat, so the state Democratic party was highly embarrassed (it's hard to go on about evil, unethical Republicans when, you know, you have the same thing going on in your own party) and was trying to get him to walk the plank.
No dice; Dann wouldn't budge. Even under the threat of impeachment. Yes, his own party threatened to impeach him. And the Republicans were jumping in with both feet, calling for investigations.
But Dann hung on and is still hanging on. On May 13, 2008, after a prolonged and confusing day of negotiations, Dann vowed to remain — though it's uncertain for how long. It might not matter that much.
Yes, the Ohio Democrats are making good on their threats to impeach, having filed articles of impeachment on May 13 accusing him of misconduct and malfeasance in office.
But Dann is hanging in there, though I'm not really sure how long a man can last when the entire state government, both political parties, and everyone else are calling for his head on a platter. Indeed, since all you need to impeach is votes and, as far as I know, no one is on Dann's side, his downfall is sure to be soon.
It's probably not a good thing when your best excuse for why you let your office spiral out of control is that you never expected to get elected and actually aren't qualified for the job. And that's what Dann claimed. He's toast, and sooner rather than later.
