But this time, we have a story of the associate babysitting the summer who messed up. Thus, it's slightly less common. Shearman & Sterling is the scene of our tale.

What appears to have happened is this: after a long day at work on July 18th, a large group of Shearman employees, including the summer associate in question, went out to visit the local bar scene. Eventually, the group split up, and the Shearman associate took the summer — a female — to another club. This club just so happened to be the infamous Windmill Club, one of the more prestigious, if that's possible, strip clubs in London. The Windmill is in the SoHo area.

On July 24th, the summer associate filed a complaint to the firm after her placement had finished, and Shearman investigated and fired its employee on August 1st. The student herself is now with another firm.

This is clearly an example of what not to do with your summer associates. For those who still have them in the office, and have a responsibility to entertain them — please, stay away from the morally ambiguous places. A trip to a strip club could offend anyone, not just female associates. With that in mind, good luck on your babysitting duties for the rest of the summer!
