Avvo Law School Rankings

The legal help site has released an interesting set of law school rankings. Based on information in Avvo's database, including information from bar associations, lawyers' web sites, and lawyers themselves, that was compared with the site's information about lawyers in the Avvo system, they were able to produce a list of law schools that produce their highest ranking attorneys. Four hundred and ninety three law schools were represented with an average of 1,023 alumni per school.

The top five proved to be nothing new and different, with Yale taking highest average rating. The top five scores are below along with the practice area in which the majority of their alumni belong…business:

1. Yale Law School: 7.6, Business (36%)
2. Stanford Law School: 7.5, Business (32%)
3. Harvard Law School: 7.4, Business (40%)
4. University of Chicago Law School: 7.4, Business (40%)
5. Columbia Law School: 7.4, Business (42%)

Avvo also released their findings for the five worst law schools — according to their research and information compilation. The bottom five are below along with the majority practice area as well:

1. Florida Coastal School of Law: 6.0, Family (21%)
2. Chapman School of Law: 6.1, Business (25%)
3. Lincoln Law School: 6.2, Employment Labor (25%)
4. Michigan State College of Law: 6.2, Business (20%)
5. Texas Wesleyan School of Law: 6.2 Other (30%), Personal Injury (20%)

Other law firms of note that didn't quite make the top five and luckily didn't fall in the bottom five, in no particular order, are:

1. New York University School of Law: 7.34, Business (45%)
2. University of Virginia School of Law: 7.2, Business (38%)
3. Vanderbilt University Law School: 7.17 (Business 39%)
4. Cornell Law School: 7.03 (Business 38%)
5. UC Berkeley School of Law: 7.26 (Business 27%)
