According to Jones, he reported the incident to school officials as well as the bus driver, but nothing came of it. The bullying continued until Jones boarded the bus himself one morning and insisted his daughter point out those who were cruelly teasing her. In an obscenity filled rant, he made quite the strong statement and warned he'd take care of matters in his own way if they didn't stop teasing her. The bus had a camera and caught every word. Although he was only on the bus for less than 90 seconds, he certainly made his presence known. And then he was charged.
After the incident, public outcry was incredible. While many assumed he'd be criticized, it was the opposite reaction he received. "People are tired of bullies in our society; especially since it grows worse on seemingly a daily basis", said one teacher who was not named and not a teacher with the school Chatari attends. National television appearances began and it was soon clear the public stood next to the fed-up father. He was often emotional and fought back tears a few times on the Dr. Phil show. Asked if he would do it again, he provided an emphatic ''Yes''.
Now the courts have spoken. He plead to lesser charges and under the deal, Jones will be on probation for six months, will enroll in anger management class and will complete 10 hours of community service. Jones stands by his decision, despite his punishment, and said he was "proud" he brought attention to the national spotlight.
