This 'think tank' newly established by Thomson Reuters Governance, Risk and Compliance, will focus on the effects of rapidly changing legislation and regulations, and how this affects the work of leading attorneys and corporate legal teams.

Accomplished lawyers, including Christopher Cox, former chairman of the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, sit on the Thomson Reuters Governance, Risk and Compliance Partner Advisory Board. Its inaugural meeting was held this month. Going forward, forty-two representatives from all over the world will meet on a regular basis to discuss significant issues affecting the legal industry, and work to devise solutions for colleagues aimed at running a more effective business.

Not only will the Partner Advisory Board give information and guidance to members of the profession, it will assist attorneys in fostering their networks and staying abreast of trends and development in the legal industry.

Ely Razin, vice president of Thomson Reuters Governance, Risk and Compliance was quoted as saying: ''The Thomson Reuters Partner Advisory Board serves as a pool of collective legal knowledge and insight. It is a major resource where law firms can get assistance and guidance from experts who provide legal counsel to heavily regulated industries. The Board will help guide lawyers in a number of key areas. The rules of business have changed and there are a whole host of new business opportunities to be won by lawyers.''
United States

Cross-border mergers and acquisitions, and new regulations, such as the Dodd–Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act, head the list of key issues the board will analyze. As global consolidation increases, mergers and acquisitions will be at the forefront for law firms as an opportunity for business, as will new regulations, as businesses seek to understand, and maintain compliance.

''There are some real opportunities, but they also bring added complexity,'' Razin was quoted as saying. ''Those firms best armed to advise on issues such as new global regulations and complex transactions will win. The Partner Advisory Board can help lawyers best understand the most effective ways to capitalize on these opportunities.''

According to information at the organization's website, Thomson Reuters is the world's leading source of intelligent information for businesses and professionals. The Governance, Risk & Compliance unit delivers a comprehensive suite of tools designed to connect business transactions, strategy and operations to the regulatory environment.
