Lawrence Scott Ward was charged after photos and videos of him engaged in sex with two boys in Brazil were discovered following a search in his office. Ward, who taught at the prestigious Wharton School of Business, pleaded guilty in 2008 to two counts of shipping pornography in interstate commerce, two counts of inducing a minor to engage in sexually explicit conduct, and of making false statements to a federal official.
Court records show Ward lied to State Department officials in 2006, after he was arrested at Dulles Airport, when returning from a trip to Brazil. He stated while trying to get a visa for one of his victims that the boy's family was affluent when, in fact, it was destitute. He maintained contact with the two boys even after his guilty plea and violated prison rules by trying to get his lawyers to contact the victims for non-legal reasons.
An email submitted by the prosecutor showed the Professor writing to one of the boys, "you and your mom can keep having a good life as long as you keep giving me good things … show me lots of love and respect especially in bed."
Prosecutors have alleged that Ward has molested boys in Pennsylvania, Massachusetts and the Philippines.
