Eyewitness News of WWLTV.com was the first to report news of the investigation, and last year, the news channel obtained documents indicating King received a homestead exemption for a Slidell home on Chancer Lane from 2007-12. St. Tammary Parish records also showed that Kind had applied for a Road Home grant in 2007 for the same residence.
In June 2013, the Louisiana Attorney General's office had said, "Our office is in receipt of a complaint forwarded to us by the Orleans Parish District Attorney's Office … That complaint is currently being reviewed to determine the appropriate course of action."
The investigation revealed that on April 22, 2013, Yolanda King had asked to remove the homestead exemption on her Slidell house for 2013, and one day later she also asked to remove the exemption for the years 2011 and 2012. Following her requests, the tax commission removed the exemptions on her Slidell house in May 2013.
The investigation started in the following month of June 2013.
