Job Title: Industrial Appeals Judge 3 (Hearings Judge)

Job Responsibilities:
The Industrial Appeals Judge 3, also known as the Hearings Judge, presides over conferences and hearings where evidence is presented according to the Rules of Evidence and Superior Court Rules. The judge is responsible for issuing written decisions that resolve appeals filed under various acts, including the Industrial Insurance Act, the Crime Victims Compensation Act, and the Washington Industrial Safety and Health Act. The judge is assigned a hearing run by geographic area, with most hearings conducted via video or telephone. In-person hearings are held at the request of the parties involved or if deemed necessary by the judge due to reasons such as the number of expected witnesses or exhibits. These in-person hearings take place in the county where the injury occurred or where the injured worker resides.

Education and Experience Information:
Required Qualifications:
- Must be an active or judicial member of the Washington State Bar Association (WSBA).
- Must have been a practicing attorney for a minimum of five years as a member of the WSBA or another state bar association.

Desirable Qualifications:
- Experience in industrial insurance cases before the **Members Only.** (BIIA) or equivalent experience in another state.
- Experience presiding as a judge in a court of general jurisdiction, a court commissioner, an administrative law judge, or a judge in a military tribunal.
- Experience in trial practice or presiding over cases where the rules of evidence are followed.
- Practicing attorney for seven or more years.
- Advanced litigation management skills.
- Extensive knowledge of rules of evidence and procedural issues.
- Clear and effective oral and written communication skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Outlook.
- Excellent legal writing skills.

Salary Information:
The salary range for the position is $113, - $116, annually. The high end of the salary range, Step M, is typically a longevity step. Positions assigned to the Renton Office receive an additional 5% premium pay and an ORCA card.

- Washington state residency is required upon hire.
