What would you, or others, like to see changed at employer?
The people, culture, and work are great. The only downside is that federal criminal defense work tends to take a toll on everyone. There is certainly a heavy cognitive load when clients’ lives and freedom are at stake. This is something everyone at Elizabeth Franklin-Best P.C. internalizes, and it pushes me to work longer and harder to achieve successful outcomes for our clients.

What were the things that you liked most about this employer?
While the people at Elizabeth Franklin-Best P.C. are my favorite aspect, the culture comes in at a close second. Elizabeth seems to genuinely care about both her employees and her clients. When she asks how you are doing, she seems genuinely interested in your response. This applies equally to both employees and clients alike. Likewise, whereas many smaller federal criminal defense law firms are overwhelmed and just trying to push out work product, Elizabeth has a strong focus on ensuring that both clients and employees aren’t merely heard and appreciated, but that they know this to be true. She wants to do the best she can for everyone and lets them know through prompt, compassionate communication.

What did you not like about this institution?
I really don’t have any complaints. While we are a busy practice, Elizabeth offers the support and guidance I need to excel in my role.

People, departments, offices, products, services and whatever comes to mind that should be avoided at this institution
Elizabeth and the team at Elizabeth Franklin-Best P.C. seem to do a good job of limiting our practice to the cases where we excel. She’s very good at being focused on federal criminal defense, Federal Bureau of Prisons policy matters, and appellate advocacy. As such, anything federal criminal defense, federal prison, or federal courts is within the firm’s wheelhouse. Clients who need services outside these practice areas would likely do better with a firm that focuses exclusively on other areas of law that address their specific needs.

How could this employer run its business to employees or the public better?
Nothing comes to mind. The team at the firm works hard, cares about clients, and is invested not only in our cases but also in our clients as people. If anything, it would be nice to add a therapist to help clients and their families as they progress through the federal criminal justice system, but as a small, dedicated team, these types of roles don’t really seem to exist anywhere. That said, when clients have the resources, we often do refer them to therapists we know and trust to help with processing the trauma of criminal prosecution.
