Overview

On August 16, 1986, Wendell R. Bird launched our firm with a vision – namely, to gather highly qualified attorneys with a passion to provide their clients with exceptional legal services from a shared value system. Having practiced law in California for a non-profit dedicated to advancing legal reform in education, represented the State of Louisiana and other clients before the United States Supreme Court, and practiced with a large Atlanta business law firm, Mr. Bird wanted to establish a firm that would be home for a sophisticated legal practice on a national scale, but within a smaller, more collegial setting where deeply skilled, like-minded and values-driven attorneys could develop close relationships with their clients. Wendell Bird was soon joined by others who shared and sought to advance that vision.

Over the years, the firm has grown thoughtfully, building on our shared values while developing a team of experienced lawyers across eight practice areas who serve clients across the United States and internationally. From our original four practice areas of corporate and securities, non-profit and tax exempt organizations, litigation and estate planning, our firm’s expertise has expanded and diversified to meet our clients’ needs and now also includes intellectual property, employment, commercial real estate and data protection practices. We have grown with our clients, among whom are now included technology and consumer products start-ups, multinational enterprises, individuals and families, global and local ministries and charities, schools, and multi-generational family-owned businesses across a wide spectrum of industries. Throughout our growth and diversification, our commitments have remained the same – to maintain best-in-class legal expertise and to develop close relationships with our clients in order to provide truly outstanding service. Our lawyers have always understood that each client’s legal options must be evaluated in concert with their unique mission, ethics and culture, and that relational wisdom is what our clients treasure and expect.
